Pawnee County Humane Society, Inc.

Dogs

The following animals are available for adoption through the PCHS.

The PCHS collects a deposit on puppies and kittens that are too young to spay/neuter before they are adopted.  The adoption fee is $85 for puppies and $65 for kittens.  Then, after the animal is spayed/neutered, the adopter will receive a refund, $50 on puppies and $40 on kittens.  This is required by state law.

If you have any questions about the animals, the phone number of the foster home housing them is listed with their information.

Best Chance Dog Program

In March, 2006, the Pawnee County Humane Society entered into an agreement with the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility to place 5 dogs into training. The program is designed to utilize inmates as dog handlers. They provide basic socialization and obedience training to dogs that have been surrendered to the PCHS and helps them to become more adoptable. All of these dogs in training have been spayed or neutered and are current on vaccinations. These dogs are trained to kennel, are housebroken, and are socialized with humans as well as other dogs. Basic obedience training includes: heel on and off lead, sit, stay, down and come. The LCMHF also has a few of the agility/obstacle course stations in the exercise area where handlers can also work with and exercise the dogs. When the trained dogs are adopted, the PCHS will teach the new owner how to give the commands and what to expect from their trained dog.
