Pawnee County Humane Society, Inc.

About Us

The Pawnee County Humane Society was established as a steering committee under the City of Larned in April of 2005, after several meetings of concerned citizens.  The first priority of the PCHS was to help the animals that found themselves in the Larned City Pound without being claimed by an owner.  Our goal was to decrease the number of animals being euthanized.  As the awareness of our efforts grew, the PCHS began helping with animals from Pawnee County.   The success of the PCHS is due to many volunteer hours by many volunteers who truly want to make the life of the homeless pets in Pawnee County a little better.  Also, thanks to the support of our local Veterinary Clinics the homeless pets are spayed, neutered, and are living healthier lives.

We feel we have been very successful for the past year. We truly care about the homeless pets in Pawnee County and are doing what we can with only the funds we have raised through Fundraisers and without a facility from which to operate. We are truly thankful for all those who serve on the committee, adoped an animal, provided a foster home or have contributed in any other way.

We have heard from many residents of Larned asking for help and we hope that we have been able to provide some type of assistance. Until the Pawnee County Humane Society has a facility, staff, and financial support, please help us help you. First, have your pet spayed or neutered. This is the most important and responsible action a pet owner can do. Second, if you live in the city of Larned, you are required by city statutes to tag your animals so your pet can be identified. If you live in the County, have your pet micro-chipped. Our local Vets can help you with this. And Third, please when choosing to have a pet, make it a responsible decision. Puppies and kittens will become full-grown animals, which will need health care so they can remain part of your family for many years.

The Pawnee County Humane Society has a network of caring individuals who will help the citizens of Pawnee County care for animals in need, but it is a difficult task without a building to house these animals. However, we do not want to see any animal abandoned or abused in any way.

Pawnee County citizens, it's up to each one of us to be responsible pet owners. Please consider supporting the Pawnee County Humane Society.
